Day 4 - Thursday 12 September

Today was sadly the last night of camp. We went for a little tour around Russel. Firstly we went to a Catholic Church called Christ Church. We visited Tamaki Waka Nene grave from years ago. The church is one of the oldest building in New Zealand and its still standing in the same place. As we were walking around the church we saw lots of pullet holes in the church and I know that Hone Heke had something to do with those holes.

Hone Heke was apparently buried in one of the graves at the church. I was pretty surprised because he shot the church but the church was forgive and forget. We went to a place called The Pompallier House, As we were walking we saw Angela again from Kerikeri Stone Store she apparently has two jobs such as touring and Gardening. We learnt how to make clothes and other things with animal skin. After The Pompallier House we went for a little walk to the Flagstaff mountain.

It was so long and all of us were so tired. When we got up to the mountain Chris talked about what this mountain meant to the British and the Maori people. We started learning the Haka and the Waiata, We saw some people walking around and they started taking videos of us doing the Haka. We walked all the way down the mountain and went to the Russell Museum. After going to the museum all the groups came together and had our lunch.

We had our lunch for 30 minutes and played for 5 minutes. After our lunch we went to Long Beach for a swim. Each group had 15 minutes each to swim. When we got back to the campsite everybody went for showers. Everyone went to hang their wet clothes. After getting ready we went into the common room and got ready for dinner. For dinner we had a little feast since it was our last day of camp. After dinner we learnt the Haka that Maikey taught us.

After The Haka and our cleaning duties Chris and Magnus decided that we should do a bonfire for the last night. As we were walking Chris was talking about the stars. When we were sitting down surrounding the fire we all said our own personal thank yous to everyone. This time was an emotional time for everybody because it was the last day. After saying our thank yous we made smores and talked the night away. We walked back to our cabins and brushed our teeth.

Day 3 - Wednesday 11 September

Today we went for a little Tiki Tour around Kerikeri. We arrived there at 8:00 and had a little brief talk about what we know about New Zealand. After talking about New Zealand we had one of Chris's wife's cookies called Flap jacks, We also had out class milk. We had to split into two groups so we could see different places. Group 3 went into the a place called The Kemp house. Did you know that is it the oldest building in New Zealand.

We met a kind lady named Angela, She was our tour guide for the Kemp house for now. We saw olden day things such as cooking supplies and chalk boards. We saw Hiriata Rongo's diary, We saw her own Waiatas that she made in her own time. We also saw the kids rooms, It was so scary because their were dolls and holes in the walls and the beds were almost broken. It was also scary because it was up stairs and it felt like the floor was gonna break.

After the Kemp house we went to the Stone Store. In the Stone Store their were cool things the people made in the olden days. We went upstairs and we did a little ice breaker. We had to get a paper with questions about what we know about the treaty. Our next stop was Rewa's Village. In Rewa's Village we saw houses made out of leaves, we also saw Canoes made out of wood. After seeing all those amazing things we came back to the bus and had our morning tea.

After morning tea we had a long treasure hunt made by Magnus and Chris. It was very long and i was so tired. We had our treasure hunt for like two hours and came back to the bus so we could go back to the campsite. When we came back we all went into our groups and went for a 20 minute swim in the holiday park pool. We all went for a shower and had dinner. After dinner we did our reflections and Maikey brought us ice blocks because we were apparently good.

Maikey taught us a Waita and a Haka, we learnt the actions and the words probably this time. Everybody was so bored so we did a little Talent quest. We did it in our groups, We either did a dance or a song. Click the video to see groups 3's three talented students.

Day 2 - Tuesday 10 September

Today we woke up at 6:00 and got ready for the day. We had fitness for 10 minutes and had for another 20 minutes breakfast. We had to spit into our groups and clean the holiday park before we do our activities. Our activites were Kayaking, Swimming, Bush Craft, Team building and Bush walk. We learnt a lot of things on our bush walk. I learnt about new trees such as Puriri and Totara.

Puriri are the kind of tree that has a weird as shape but its a really cool tree. Totara is a type of tree that is nearly tall like a kauri tree. Its so similar to the Kauri tree, Its so strong and I heard that its pretty hard to cut down. As we were walking in the forest we saw this weird vine called Supple Jack. If you burn the vine and make it into something it stays like that for a very long time. I think you can eat it as well because it seems eatable.

In bus craft we all learnt how to make a fire and how to make shelter. we had to find dried sticks to put in the fire so it can burn easily. we also learnt about some other trees called Tea Tree, when the Tea Tree leaves are died it is called Kanuka and if the Tea Tree leaves is alive it is called Manuka. In Team building we just played games and it was basically about all of us mingling together. Some of us went Kayaking and the rest of the people got to go swimming.

After all the fun things we did we all went for a shower and go ready for dinner. Some of the class wanted to help the teachers cook the food and the rest of us watched a movie called "LORAX". The movie was so funny and interesting. We ate dinner and had to do our cleaning duty's before we go to bed. After our cleaning Maiki taught us a little Haka and a Waiata so we can perform it anywhere to show people where we are from.

Day 1 - Monday 9 September

Today we left from school at 7:45 after everybody has packed their stuff under the bus. We drove for about 2 hours and we stopped at Whangarei to have morning tea and have a toilet break. We also got to meet our bus driver Mikey, He's really fun and funny. He's like one of the best bus drivers we have had so far. After eating and having a toilet break for 30 minutes we got back into the bus and drove to out next destination

We drove for another 2 hours and arrived at the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. When we got out of the bus people from the Treaty grounds did a very interesting Powhiri. It was very scary and touching to the people that were coming in the Marae After the amazing Powhiri we had two wonderful ladies giving us a little tour around the Treaty grounds. we went into James busby's house from like years ago. Both the British and the Maori peoples house were facing each other.

After that fun tour around the treaty grounds we had to say goodbye to our tour guides. After saying our goodbyes we went on a ferry to Orongo holiday park because that was where we were staying for five days. We packed all our bags in our cabins and came back to our common room (Meeting room). We meet two interesting guys named Magnus and Chris, They were our caretakers for the past few days.

After packing all our stuff we had a little activity and it helps us get to know our class more better. The activity was very fun and cool because we got to mingle with other class mates. We had fish and chips for dinner and got ready for our daily reflections. We got ready for bed and brushed all our teeths, some of us went for a shower because we were running and sweating for a long day.
