Argument writing !

 Bula Vinaka, my name is Ngakiri Amosa and I am a year 8 student currently at Glenbrae school in Glen innes. As you all know, Our community is a small community known for many things. Our class is now learning how to write arguments based on the topics our teacher has put for us. As you can see by the topic on my doc, we are arguing about Glenbrae students wearing what they want to wear at school. I am supporting the text, and I think it is best for our students to wear anything to school.

 

Firstly, students should wear anything to school ! Why ? because kids might only have one set of uniform to wear for the next five days without any washing or cleaning. Especially those students that play around a lot and get sweaty or dirty. Which isn’t very hygienic at all. 

Secondly, Some of the schools I've seen don’t really have thick sweaters, shorts, rain coats and many more things. Which makes the child more cold and sick. And during this time, getting sick is really bad for people because they might get sick as well. 

Thirdly, I know people have hard times finding their uniforms after the weekends. I mean, I even go through that all the time. But if we wore anything we wanted, we would’ve been ready right away. The clothes might be so delayed and still in the washing and you might have to wait for it to get  washed, dried and folded for you to use it again. Sometimes children are even late to school because they are trying to find their school uniform. 

Fourthly, Even if we had uniform children will still bring mufti to school anyways. Children bring mufti because the uniform is either thin or small for them. I think students should wear anything they want because some of the school uniforms are very expensive. I know parents go through hard times with money and jobs now. Some students don’t even have anything to eat for lunch. 

Lastly, Most of the students from other schools get into a lot of fights with other different schools which will bring shame to their school and community. Especially when they are wearing uniforms which represent their school.

Why did Maori fight in the war? Because they were fighting for New Zealand or their country. 

What changed when the Maori soldiers returned home ? Most of them were sad because some of the soldiers didn’t survive the war. 

What didn’t change when they returned home ? Some of the soldiers survived the war and they got home safely.

Do you agree with Maori going abroad to fight in the war ? I mean yeah, Maori people are one of the bravest people on earth.

Why was it easy for some of the younger boys to join the war ? Younger boys were able to join the war because they are strong and trustworthy.

Special guest !

 Today, Room 7 had a great opportunity to see a special guest. As you all know our class has been reading a great novel called Purple Heart. We had the greatest opportunity by meeting the writer Taafuli Andrew Fiu. He honestly made my day with his jokes. We were so lucky he told us so really amazing things about his life story. He is such a funny and amazing person to tell stories. His family and parents are hilarious as well. I loved how his dad was lying to the people and how he was supporting Andrew with his book writing. Most of his family didn’t even believe in him which is really sad. But he kept trying and trying. And look where he got. It was really nice meeting Andrew hopefully we see him next time. 

Four mini humans !

“Ding” goes the bell. We just finished our science class and it is now morning tea.
I accidentally left my phone in class and Mr Holakeituai was just about to close the
class but we all ran as fast as we could to the door. I went into the classroom and
tried looking for my phone. As we were walking around the classroom Tupou decided
to snoop around and touch the science materials. Suli kept telling him to stop touching
things but he didn’t listen. He found this little potion that looked very amazing, it was
glowing so bright.

Tupou kept tipping it on all of us because he thought he was funny. I finally found my
phone and went out of the classroom. We walked to the school tuck shop to get food
for us to eat. After getting our lunch we walked to the main area where the tables were.
We all sat down together eating our lunch. “Hey, the table is getting bigger,” I said. “I know
it sounds weird but the chairs are growing” Said Suli. Guess what was happening ?
We were shrinking ! we were so small, we looked like minions. 

Do you know what was more weird ? Tupou was still the same size. I was even more angry
because I had an English class after lunch. I was supposed to attend it or else I'll get in big
trouble with my parents. Harley had Gym class after lunch, he had to attend it because
he’s been wagging it a lot. Suli and Sika are the idiots of the group. They only come to
school to see their friends and make girlfriends. They were so happy being small because
they were gonna wag class anyways. 

Sika and Suli were laughing at Tupou because he looked so lost. He was trying to find us.
“Tupou !” shouted all of us. He finally looked down and we were so happy. He was so
confused so he tried bending down to our height. He asked “is it just me or are you guys
short as hell”, “Yeah, whatever” said Harley. “Why are you guys so small ?” Tupou asked.
“Maybe because you tipped that stupid science potion on all of us” I said angrily. 

“Well, what do I do ?” Said Tupou. “Maybe find a way to make us normal again,” Harley said.
“Here, jump in my bag” Said Tupou. It was so disgusting because Tupou had heaps of rubbish
and gum in his bag. He even had expired food in there. (ew yuck) I honestly couldn’t breathe
so I went to his shoulder. The boys also decided to follow me. I asked him “Where are you
going”, “To my car” Said Tupou. “Wait what ? You're not gonna help us” I said. “I’ll do it
tomorrow because I'm getting a bit tired,” Said Tupou. “Ew we don’t wanna see you sleep,
eat, change and shower” Said Sika. “ Yeah isn’t that weird” Said Suli. “Guys stop being rude”
Said Harley. 

“Don’t worry guys, I’m gonna get you guys food on my way home” Said Tupou. “Yayyy” I said
happily. We got to Tupou’s house and wow it was so big and nice. He had these fountains all
around his house. He had water and chocolate fountains around the house. We went into his
room and wow he had many more amazing things. He had his own toilet, Bathroom, Fridge
and even a cupboard. We tried opening his cupboard and wow he had everything in there.
“Okay, I'm sleeping here” I said. “You guys can all sleep here, make yourself at home. I’ll get
you guys some blankets, ``said Tupou.

It was finally the next day, and it was time for school. Obviously Tupou had to take us to
school so that we could be normal again. We got to school and obviously saw the same
people as usual. It was going onto morning tea time and we had our science class straight
after it. We got into the science class and didn’t find the potion. It was gone !!

PB4L !

Today our class had a little PB4L class session. We talked about looking after ourselves or respecting ourselves and others. We had ideas from some of my classmates. People should be really careful with themselves during this time. With all this Covid happening around the world. We looked at the latest updates with the cases around the world. It is really shocking how many people have got it, died from it and recovered from it. Places like America, China and other places are really shocking with the cases they’ve had. 

Capacity & Volume :)

1) Capacity measures the amount something can hold. it usually means volume and can be measured in millilitres. litres and kilolitres.

Write the abbreviations for :

a) Millilitres = ML
b) Litres = L
c) Kilolitres = KL

- Capacity - From what i know,  Capacity is the amount of space that can fit inside a box or 3D shape. It is also the maximum amount something can contain or hold. 

Volume - I think volume is kinda similar to capacity. Volume is the amount of space that a substance or objects occupies.

Auckland Zoo has a new Rhino !

Today's reading enjoy enjoyment is about our public Auckland Zoo having a new Rhino. Auckland Zoo is celebrating the birth of it's first baby Rhino in 20 years. A healthy female delivered by first-time mum Jamila in a speedy one-hour labour 13 days ago. The birth follows a 16-month pregnancy. The birth of the southern white Rhino calf happened on the 14 of August 2020. The mother of the Rhino gave birth when she was about 30 years of age. The father Zambezi was very exited and happy !

Covid update !

Today's reading enjoyment was about what's been happening for the past days with the Covid-19. I didn't really read much but I saw this really important timeline of how much cases New Zealand. Apparently New Zealand has been ranked up to the second safest places during this Covid Pandemic. As you all know,  Auckland is now on level 2.5 which is kinda weird. Corona virus is something that anybody can get easily. Here is a little timeline I found. this was from the first lock down to now.  

Devastating floods hit Sudan

Today's article was about a really sad thing that happened in a place called Sudan. Many devastating floods has hit Sudan multiple times. These floods has been caused by heavy seasonal rains. These heavy rains have damaged more than 100,00 homes in the African country Sudan. Over the weekend, Sudan declared a three-month state of emergency after flooding that has sadly killed about 100 people. In addition to the deaths, the floods had affected more than half a million people. 

Act of kindness !

 Today our class had a little fun activity to do. Which is called act of kindness. So basically people had to pick names and whoever they get, they have to get them something. It's kinda like secret Santa but not Christmas. So I picked my friend Kue'a, I got him two Chocolate bars, Maltesers and M&M's. My friend Soane got me a packet of Snickers. It was so yummy !!
