Genomics Come Together!!

Today Room 7 had the opportunity to go to Pt England School to present what we learnt about in Genomics. Glen Innes also had the opportunity to attend in it as well. Both Terry and Jannie made this happen because they both visited our schools and told us about Genomics. When we got to school we had to walk all the way to Pt England.

When we got to Pt England they were already in lines so both Glen Innes and Glenbrae had to go into lines as well. We got their like at about 10:00 and did a little intro for G.I and Glenbrae. They sang beautiful songs and they also prayed as well. After the introduction Jannie and Terry introduced themselves as well. We also had a little pop quiz and won little prizes.

After the pop quiz both Glen Innes and Glenbrae had to split into pairs or threes and go into different classes. We all introduced ourselves and told our group members what has inspired us to learn about Genomics. I was with Viliami M and Tupou. From Pt England we were with Arthur, Zane, Sione, Ash, Pillip, Paschal and Naytrum. My group was so funny and very keen to learn.

After Introducing ourselves we went to other tables and introduced ourselves again. We met a lot of new faces and they were so funny. After introducing ourselves to everyone we had to show them different slide shows, Models and other things we learnt about Genomics. After sharing what we learnt we had our morning tea. Pt England already provided morning tea for all of us both students and teachers.

While we were having our morning tea it was the time to meet new friends and mingle with other students. Everybody saw some familiar faces and we also saw one of our old teacher that use to come to Glenbrae her name was Miss Stone. After morning tea we had other pop quiz but we had to do it in our groups. We had to make up our name for our groups. Our group was called Hp Lads for some reason.

Each group had 8 questions to answer and I think we got 3 right:) After the quiz five teachers picked  two amazing students that were listening and that were learning. This was when everybody got lots and lots of prizes today. They prizes were for special people and for the winners as well. Sadly it was the end of the Genomics Session and it was time for Glen Innes and Glenbrae to go back to school because it was nearly lunch time.

Volleyball Tournament 2k19

It's finally Thursday!! Today is the day we stay up and get ready to go to Palmerston North for a Church Volleyball Tournament. My sister and I were the only people from my family attending this tournament. We packed our things into mini suitcases for the whole weekend. Since we had to leave so early in the morning, my sister and I was thinking of doing all nighters the whole night so we can sleep on the way there.

The drive was about 8-9 hours to get to our destination. About two churches mixed up with our church. Otahuhu Sda church and Remuera sda church were the two churches that gathered together with our Glen Innes sda church. The next day we all had to meet at the Manukau petrol station across the Rainbow’s end. We all meet there at about 6:00am in the morning. We left at about 6:45 but we all had breakfast first and went to the toilet before we left.

We stopped at Huntly to pick up another two of our church members. We then kept driving and stopped in Matamata for a little pit stop and go to the toilet. 2 hours later we stopped in Taupo to have our lunch. People had different sorts of food such as Mcdonalds and Kfc. After everybody finished going toilet and having their lunch we then the whole way down to palmy (Palmerston North).

Another two hours later we finally arrived to our sleeping destination. Everybody looked so tired so we quickly packed our things into our rooms. We split into two rooms, One room for the boys and the other one for the girls. Some people were so exhausted so they went for a little nap and the rest of the people went shopping for our dinner. For dinner we have spaghetti bolognaise, it was so yummy and delicious. Before dinner we opened sabbath and introduced ourselves to everyone.

Tonight two boys from Otahuhu Sda church were on their way to Palmy. They left at 9:00pm and arrived at 4:00am in the morning. When we woke up the next day both of them got to sleep in because of the long drive. We had breakfast and got ready to go to church at Lac Sda school. When we went to church we saw different churches their as well and we got free bibles to use.

After church we had to get ready for the volleyball tournament. The volleyball tournament was held in Palmerston North Central Energy trust Arena Stadium. Their were about 53 different church currently attending in this amazing tournament. We saw different churches and got to mingle with other church as well.

Then the next day we woke up at 9:00 and went straight to the volleyball tournament. This day was the semi finals. We took three hard working teams down to palmy. Their names were mixed up, Flight and Sugar n Spike. The captains came up with those very cool names. Sadly two of our volleyball teams didn’t make it to the semi finals but the did come 2nd. Our mix team came first and everybody was so happy.

On that night we didn't get to have lunch so we have a very big and yummy dinner since it was sadly the last night. On this night everybody got so close and it was a night where everybody got to know each other and play with each other. Some of us stayed up until 4:00 in the morning and played games the whole morning. This night was the best night of the weekend so far because we got to mingle with each other and people were having so much fun together.

The next day was sadly the last day:( But we made the most of it. We had to clean and make sure all our things were packed in our cars and loaded. Some people said some thank yous on behalf of their church. And it was time to leave palmy. We had about 4 pit stops and toilet breaks and safely got back to Auckland. We met at Manukau petrol station again.

This night everybody didn’t even want to leave because the weekend was so fun and they missed it so much. But sadly we all said our goodbyes and went home. Hopefully everybody had fun with each other and I really do hope we can do it again with the next Volleyball Tournament next year!!

Lighthouse Moved!!

Today's current event was about a lighthouse in Denmark has been moved 70 meters inland due to coastal erosion. It was moved because it was suppose to be protect it from the sea.For 120 years, the Rubjerg Knude lighthouse has been perched on a sand dune on the northern Danish coast, but coastal erosion from North Sea winds threatened to topple it into the sea. Originally, the lighthouse stood 200m from the sea, but erosion has reduced that by 2m a year, leaving it only a few meters from the edge.
Now the 720-tonne structure has been saved, in an operation to lift it up and move it 70m inland “like skates on rails”. It only too a few hours to transport the lighthouse to its new position. The engineers had assumed the lighthouse weighed up to 1,000 tonnes but discovered as they lifted it on Tuesday that it was a mere 720 tonnes and therefore a little easier to move.

Current Events

Today’s current event was really shocking to hear because a big fire breaks out in the New Zealand Sky City. It went from level six to level seven.Large flames engulfed the top of the building just after 1 pm this afternoon – starting on the seventh floor before spreading to the sixth. The fire started in the roof cavity and it’s been difficult for firefighter’s to get inside the building and to the top. St John says one person has been admitted to Auckland City Hospital in a serious condition. Sky City has evacuated its entire Auckland area, with people forced to leave the Sky Tower, casino, all Sky City hotels and restaurants and corporate offices. Hopefully the workers were safe during the fire,

Pollution

How does pollution damage the earth? Pollution is damaging the earth because of the amount of smoke and gas that goes into the air. Cars, Trucks and planes are the main course of why the air is polluted. People fart and smoke and all that gas goes into the air and it is polluted. Big factories are another reason why it is polluted because the amount of smoke they use it goes into the air.

About 70,000 people die each year because of the pollution we do around the world. This all leads to Climate change. Things that make us go to different places such as planes, cars and different vehicles have been one of the reasons of air pollution. Every single day big trucks have been polluting the air a lot.

Health is something else that is important because people need to know what goes into their bodies. When people are going to get groceries or shopping people look at the back of the box or the packet and see what is in it. People should always know what goes into their bodies.

Their is a huge issue going around the world. Three students are nearly dying because of the amount of air they breathe in and because of the air pollution that happens all the time. They breathe in smoke and other things that are bad to breathe in. Traffic is one of the main reasons why people breathe in bad air.

In December 2009 a treat to replace the Kyoto protocol will be drawn up in Copenhagen. New figures suggest that by the end of the century global sea level could rise as much as 1.5 meters. Coastal regions and low lying island will be flooded. Experts believe Tuvalu, an island in the south pacific, will be uninhabitable.

Bad Society!!

Life has expectations we need to obey such as Respecting each others by treating people how you want to be treated and Respecting our environment by not littering. In New Zealand our community has been a very bad society with all the bad habits that has happened around our country.

Violence and abuse have been very well-known in our society. Kids have died because of the amount of abuse other adults have used against them. Couples have been broken up and they also get abused to get back together. Lots and lots of people have committed suicide because they either got broken up or one of their loved ones have passed away. Suicide is a very common one, people ended their lives because of the amount of hate and shame they get from the outside world.

In a society, it includes people, bad people and good people. A society is only a society when it has people. Bad societies include gangs. Gangs aren’t as common as you may think they are but it can cause so much damage towards the society. Gangs have harmed different people and different things. They are also one of the people that do graffiti in our environment.

Current Events:)

Here is another Current event I found. French Researches have developed an artificial skin and putting it on phones. The amazing cover looks like skin and can even respond to the human touch. The skin can reportedly read your emotions – pressing hard might produce an angry emoji for example, while tapping it fast with all your fingers translates into laughter. You can also do pinches and other gestures on the back of the phone, without getting your screen dirty. The scientists used two layers of silicone to ensure it looked like skin. Small wires are placed between the layers to use as sensors. The next step the researchers are considering is to make it even more realistic by adding hair. People have really weird reactions to this because people wonder where they get their skin from.

Sliver Ferns beat Aussie

Today's current event was about the girls Netball. The Silver Ferns have beaten Australia 54-53 in another trans-Tasman netball classic. People were very proud of the score and I think both Australia and New Zealand played really well. One point a part is very close. New Zealand tried their very best to win the Netball game. The result means that the New Zealand side take a 2-1 lead in the four-match Constellation Cup series. The Silver Ferns trailed by six goals early on. However, the world champions fought their way back in front of 13,497 fans at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena on Sunday.
Hopefully New Zealand wins their next game.

Wellington Airport:))

I also had another current events to share!! Wellington airport has coloured hundreds of seagulls to help with safety. The seagulls were coloured with food dye to deal with the risk of bird strikes endangering flights. Seagulls have become such a problem that Wellington Airport decided to monitor three landfills around the city to see which is their favourite feeding site.Staff began spraying the birds with the orange, green and blue dye – a different colour for each rubbish dump. The dye washes off in a few weeks but before that, airport staff then logged sightings of the variously coloured gulls. Airport spokesman Greg Thomas said the operation was a success, and wasn’t surprised to find out that most of the birds came from the Southern Landfill.

Current Events!!

Today our class had to share our current event about this week. My current event was about Japan vs South Africa!! I was very surprised Japan lost to South Africa. But then I heard that South Africa has been planning to win the Rugby World Cup for years now. The points were (Japan) 3 - 26 (South Africa). Japan have lost by miles in the Quarter finals, But I think they tried their best and played well. Their are now Four countries currently attending the rugby World cup. New Zealand, Australia, South Africa & England. South Africa have been the champions in 1995 & 2007. Japan have been champions in 1987 & 2015. Hopefully South Africa wins champions again this year!!

Camp Presentation 2K19

Cricket!!

Yesterday, Thursday 16/10/19, Glenbrae School had the opportunity to play cricket with a very professional Cricket player. We played very fun and interesting games that help you with your throwing and your catching. We had different groups and we tired tagging the other team so they can go out so the next team comes on. We also had the opportunity to play Cricket as well.

We had to split our whole class into to equal groups so we could play probably. My group was called "Dinacorn" and the other group was called "Team Six". First the couch had to tell us the rules so we understood the game probably. After the rules both team had to Rock, Paper, Scissors to see who goes  first, Our team won so we had to either choose to field or bat. When we batted the ball we got up to 19 and the other team had to try n beat our high score.

When the other team batted I think they played really good because they had really good batting skills and they all ran really fast. Their high score was 21 so the beat us. Some of our classmates we so angry we lost but I was really proud of "Team Six" because they tired their best and played really well. Cricket is a really fun and interesting sport I do hope we get to play it again.

Day 5 - Friday 13 September

Today was the last Morning for us at camp. Everybody woke up super early because we had to pack our stuff so we can put it on the bus. After putting all our stuff in the bus we had breakfast and made our lunch to pack into our lunchbox. Then we got change into the clothes we are using for the whole day. since it was the last day the teachers said big thank yous to Chris, Magnus and Maikey. Mrs Raj gave a little something to Maikey for being a kind and amazing bus driver. Chris gave presents to the best boy and girl student for the whole week of camp.

After saying our thank yous we did a Hongi to Chris and Magness for being helpful caretakers to us all. This day was so emotional for everyone because they would miss camp. We all got on the bus and sad our last goodbyes to Chris and Magnus. We drove for like 20 minutes to Ruapekapeka, as we were driving pass a farm people were cutting down a tree so we had to turn around and go back the way we came from. In the bus we were singing the Waiata and playing music on our class speaker.

In the bus people were playing cards, Singing, Dancing, Laughing and sleeping during the bus ride. Two hours after we stopped at Westfield to have our lunch and go toilet. After driving for a long time we arrived in Auckland and looked at all the pretty views while driving. Minutes after we arrived to school at 2:45 just the right time for school to finish. Before we packed all our bags into our cars we did a haka because Maikey was leaving and we won't be seeing him anymore.

It was so sad because Maikey was very funny and a cool bus driver and everybody would miss him so much. It was pretty emotional as well. People were so happy to see their parents because they missed them so much. Everybody went home missing camp so much.

Camp was so fun and interesting, I think we got to know our class more and we got to mingle together with both boys and girls. I really miss camp and I do hope we get to go back there together so we learn lots and lots of things. Russel, Kerikeri and the Waitangi treaty Grounds is a lovely place to explore and tour around.
