Trip To Auckland Muesum ;)

Today two classes from Glenbrae school went on a very fun and interesting trip to the Auckland Museum to learn about our school topic, Creepy Crawlies and Genomics. We had two kind and welcoming workers named Tom and Elle. They were showing us different kinds of species such as Kiwis, Moa, Weta and much more. We touch different kinds of bones and even talked about how they were instinct. I really had a lot of fun learning about different living things that are instinct I hope we go back there again so we can learn more and more about species

Current events - Energy drinks

NZ supermarket Countdown has announced it will bring in an age restriction for buying 
energy drinks.From early September, people will need to be 16 or older to buy them.

Countdown said it was introducing the age restriction due to the high levels of 
sugar and caffeine in these drinks. Energy drinks are not recommended for young people and 
already carried warnings on packaging. However, the New Zealand Beverage Council, a group 
representing drink manufacturers, said it was disappointed at Countdown’s decision.
They also said that research from Food Standards Australia and New Zealand shows that energy
 drinks contribute less than three percent of the overall caffeine intake of young people aged
 between nine and 15.

Genomics Information Report

Life emerged in the oceans nearly three and a half billion years
ago. Water, Light, Air and energy - there are the elements that
made life possible. Life began 425 million years ago from land
to sea.

 Animals came way before humans, so if humans pollute the
waters and the earth, we are basically destroying their homes.
Species lower in the food chain breed more often and produce
more and more babies. The majority became food resource
for other species. Almost 300 species disappear each day. 

Somehow humans are related to apes and fishes. From tiny
microbes invisible to the eye to enormous giants of the oceans.
Octopus have 80 neurons on their skin and 800,000 neurons in
their brain. I'm so surprised that the octopus are not dead
because these animals have survived for over 530 million years. 

Did you know if sharks get instinct all the sea creatures get
instinct as well. Top predators such as tigers and lions produce
only two or three offspring every few year.

Current events

Today Our whole class did current events. I read that our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s is currently overseas, visiting Samoa and the New Zealand territory of Tokelau. The trip is part of the New Zealand Government’s Pacific Reset strategy. She had to go to Samoa to get to Tokelau because Tokelau doesn't have an airport so she had to go on a ferry to go there.Jacinda Ardern met with local leaders in Samoa and on Sunday morning she boarded the Otago patrol ship for the trip to Tokelau. Everybody knows Jacinda Adern hates going Samoa but she had to go.

Keeping Ourselves Safe

I actually learnt a lot of information about all kinds of abuse that can get you into a lot

of trouble. Room 7 , Mrs Tofa , Constable Paul and I were all talking about kinds of

abuse that should not happen to you or anyone else. Physical , Sexual , Neglect ,

Emotional , Cyber and Family violence were all the kinds of abuse that should not

happen to very young and old kids. Tbh the conversation we just had made me

scared because my parents might just lose us kids because of the mistakes that they do.

Abuse is something that can hurt you in a way that makes you very scared and terrified.

When you are old like in your 20’s or 30’s you should never ever hurt any kid or

someone you don’t know because it is very bad and you can get fined a lot of money.

I learnt that i should never go on social media and talk to people i don’t know because

they might be very older than me.

People on social media are always catfish. Catfish means like someone that tries to act

like another person but they are not. So if you have social media don’t put your personal

information on there because someone might be stalking you or watching you. If someone

texts you or talks to you and you don’t know that person block that person straight away

or tell your friends , parents and your teacher.
